But at Cloud View Garden, in the rural Victorian township of Menzies Creek, it’s a requisite pastime. Two separate guest suites – Cloud Retreat and Garden Retreat – at this eco-friendly Slow Stay provide the perfect vantage point to watch puffy cumulus and stratus clouds float above the ferntree-clad valley splayed out below. Your biggest worry will be picking a spot to pay homage to Mother Nature’s most enigmatic ephemera. In fact, the floor-to-ceiling windows and freestanding, two-person bath (powered by two 35,000-litre rainwater tanks) throw down the gauntlet: to stay or go explore the charms of the region. If you muster the strength to drag yourself out of the bath’s warm embrace, owners Mark and Leenah can deliver a picnic basket brimming with local fare and garden-grown produce to a spot of your choice – including a private lawn next to the Puffing Billy Railway line. Within whistling distance of rural village Belgrave and Dandenong Ranges National Park, you can explore ancient redgum forests by day and be home (in the bath, of course) before sunset. A simple breakfast is included and Mark and Leenah also offer a menu of prepared organic meals – as well as access to their personal wine cellar collected and curated throughout their travels
