Mount Burnett Observatory is a community run astronomical observatory that opens regularly for members and the public (including for school and community groups).
Mount Burnett Observatory is dedicated to bringing astronomy to the community in as many ways as possible. Some of our events are onsite. Other times we bring the astronomy to you!
Mount Burnett Observatory Inc. is a not-for-profit astronomical society based at Mount Burnett in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne. The Observatory was originally built in 1972 by Monash University. MBO formally took over the site in 2011, and built it up to a thriving community observatory. Our aim is to preserve the facility and to use it to promote astronomy and science to the broader community.
Mount Burnett Observatory offers a range of experiences for individuals and groups. For individuals and small groups we recommend our 'Night at the Observatory'. Schools and community groups can book the observatory for a night. If you want to know more about a 'Group Visit' please email us. Individuals can also book the observatory for a night for what we call a 'Private Viewing Session' with just you and your friends and two of our expert guides.
